Much like the image Saint George (Bringer of Victories) from the series War: Mystical Images of War by Natalia Goncharova, this war-bond poster transforms the immediately recognizable figure of Saint George into a modern icon of warfare, wedding a mystical religious past with the deadly industrial present. The poster implores: “Our valiant army, sacrificing blood for the motherland fulfills its sacred duty. Let us fulfill ours—subscribe for the loan.”
